THE LYME WAR

Well, there was quite a bit of commotion over the article entitled LYME, INC. in Forbes Magazine. The article's author, David Whelan, slammed Dr. Stricker, Dr. Jones, Dr. Jemsek and other Lyme physicians. He also criticized patients and Attorney General Richard Blumenthal for conducting his investigation. The battle rages on and is becoming a full-fledged war. Attorney General Blumenthal responded to the article defending his right to fulfill his job duties and responsibilities to the citizens of Connecticut. Many patients and advocates have also written letters to Forbes in objection to their one-sided article.

LD50

I had suspected that Edward McSweegan was posting as Hadlyme on this blogsite. Dr. McSweegan posted a response to an article in The Scientist Magazine and also posted the same response as Hadlyme on the blogsite LD50. So, it appears as though the high-level microbiologist who formerly ran the Lyme disease program for the National Institutes of Health is running a blogsite entitled LD50 and posting under the alias name of Hadlyme. He has put no other identifying information on the blogsite.

For those of you just tuning in, the description on the LD50 blogsite says: “IN MICROBIOLOGY, THE LD50 (LETHAL DOSE 50) IS A MEASURE OF THE DOSE OF AN INFECTIOUS AGENT SUFFICIENT TO KILL ONE-HALF OF THE TEST POPULATION.”

LD50 is a common term in research, but when used on a blogsite that attacks Lyme patients, advocates, Lyme-treating physicians and the Connecticut Attorney General, one should question Dr. McSweegan's perspective and motive.
